Co-Care: Holding Each Other Up When The Work Feels Heavy

The paradigm shift toward co-care reflects a move from educators working in isolation or relying solely on reactive behaviour management to a more intentional, shared approach to supporting students. Rather than seeing student needs as one person’s responsibility, co-care emphasizes coordinated relationships, consistent communication, and collective responsibility for both academic and emotional well-being. It reframes support from “fixing behaviour” to building a connected system around the student that prevents escalation, strengthens relationships, and sustains the adults involved
